I’m a College Student Against Free Tuition

The conversation surprised me a bit.

While discussing recent political events with a few coworkers, someone made this statement to me.

“I’m surprised you weren’t a Bernie Sanders fan.”

A little taken back, I replied, “because of his ‘Free College Tuition’ policy? Yeah no. I’m good with paying my own.”

“Oh? Why’s that?”

There are a many good reasons. Let’s start with the most important fact.

Solar Powered Facebook Drone Providing Internet Access to the World

It’s here everyone. The moment we all seemed to be waiting for. Well probably not everyone, but the visionaries have been looking forward to this moment.

Facebook recently announced the results of a two-year project they’ve been working on…a solar powered, WiFi beaming drone.

America: The “god(less)” Nation?

Humans of New York (HONY) never ceases to intrigue me. HONY started as a photography project to photograph 10,000 New Yorkers out on the street and create a catalogue of the city’s inhabitants. It has now grown to be a huge page consisting of an immense library of photographs of New Yorkers with accompanying quotes from them.

I found this one particular post on their Facebook page quite interesting. At first glance you might think he is some kind of conspiracy theorist with crazy thoughts. And he might be.

4 Things To Help You Get Ahead This Summer

So we are about halfway through our summer…and only have about 2 months left before school starts again!

Have you been getting your summer to-do list done? I know I haven’t been completely faithful to it….

At the beginning of the summer I came up with a few ways to pass the time this summer (when I’m not working) AND to build some long-lasting skills and knowledge that will benefit my future endeavors.

Independence Was Not Freedom

4th of July….one of my favorite times of year.

There have already been fireworks going off the past few days. I think people love going gungho even before the big finales on the 4th’s night. In the nights before you can see the little sparks of light that burst out here and there across the little valley around my house. I would love to be able to watch the 4th of July fireworks from atop a mountain vantage point (which is on my bucket list!)

One thing we often seem to forget though is what 4th of July is all about. It’s actually pretty easy to overlook what we celebrate the 4th for.

Strangers: Friends You Haven’t Met Yet?

I’m sure many of you are familiar with the Humans of New York (HoNY), which is a popular website, Facebook page, and book. The creators and writers of HoNY walk around, interview people, and share their stories. They have shown the world that each person is not just another face in the crowd, but an individual with a story. A life. Blessings and sufferings. Hardships and joy.

I recently saw a video that sparked some thoughts on “strangers” and how we react to other humans we don’t know yet.

My heart was warmed when I watched this video….check it out below.

Are strangers just friends that you haven’t met yet?

I think there are so many times that we get this sort of tunnel-vision and focused on our life, busyness, and hardships that we face. And yet we don’t always notice the person that is walking right along with us or past us on the street every day and that they too are also a human facing many of the same things that we are.

This video also reminded me of another video I had seen several years ago that had this direct purpose in mind: to make you think about your interactions with people.

So how do you treat strangers in your everyday business?

Would you hug a stranger?    🙂

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
